About the Book

Men in the late fifties were built different—especially around the dirt bullrings of the Southeast. They carried a swagger and grit you don't see these days. Curtis Haywood, a natural behind the wheel and a hometown hero from Virginia down through North Carolina, was no exception.

But everything shifts the day Harlan Johnson and his worn-down family roll into the Greenville Speedway. Running from trouble with nothing but a beat-up racecar and two dollars to his name, Harlan finds safety where he least expects it—under Curtis’s wing. Two families, one white and one black, form a bond in the infields that no one can break.

When danger catches up to Harlan in Georgia, Curtis makes a promise only a real man can keep. Forced to leave the track and face down a crooked promoter and his pack of goons, what starts as a stand for a friend erupts into a war that follows them all the way back to Virginia.

About the Author

Christopher Ray Phillips is a jack of many trades—a successful businessman, lead singer in a rock band, owner of Zane Model Stock Cars, and author. His love for stock car racing and muscle cars began early, shaped by late nights at Virginia dirt tracks and a lifelong reverence from his older brother. The Firewall series comes from his passion to tell stories from dirt tracks and real-life history—where speed, loyalty, and consequence collide.
